The meals arranged on this tour will allow you to taste the regional dishes of each city that we visit, such as the famous dumpling dinner in Xian or the Guilin Rice Noodle Banquet or the Chongqing Hot Pot dinner.

Day 1 – Departure
Depart Calgary in the afternoon on our direct flight into Beijing. For those making their own air travel arrangements, we look forward to meeting you in Beijing.
Day 2 – Beijing Arrival
Arrive into Beijing in the afternoon and after clearing airport formalities, we transfer to our hotel, Renaissance Beijing Wangfujing Hotel.
Day 3 – Beijing City Tour (B,L,D)
Start with a walk through Tiananmen Square, a site of several significant political gatherings in the history of the country. From there, continue under the beautiful Gate of Heavenly Peace with its iconic portrait of Chairman Mao to enter the splendid Forbidden City. This ancient city was the sacred heart of the empire for over 500 years and home to the Ming and Qing dynasty imperial courts. Summer Palace where we explore the beautiful grounds that served as a summer residence for Empress Dowager Cixi. In the evening enjoy the Peking Roasted Duck at Quanjude Restaurant which is renowned for their roast Peking Duck.
Day 4 – Beijing, Great Wall & Temple of Heaven (B,L)
Visit one of the mankind’s most amazing feats of construction, the Great Wall of China, at Mutianyu including round-trip cable car. You will certainly enjoy hiking (or taking cable car) to the end of this section of Wall and admire the amazing panorama of the surrounding countryside and reflect on the enormity of the material and labour required for the Wall’s creation. Lunch at a restaurant close to Wall. Return to Beijing, on the way stop to take photos of Olympic Stadium. Afternoon visit Temple of Heaven where emperors of Ming and Qing Dynasty prayed for good harvest and you can find locals gathering to practice Taichi, traditional dance and opera.
Day 5 – Beijing (B)
Free day for you to explore Beijing on your own.
Day 6 – Beijing & Xian (B,L,D)
Morning Transfer to the train station for high-speed train to Xian. Arrive in Xian after 5 hours on the train. After lunch, we visit Greater Wild Goose Pagoda erected in 752, a seven-storied brick structure of 6401 meters tall and features traditional Chinese architectural style. Then we move to visit Ancient City Wall which is the largest and best preserved ancient castle in the world – 13.7 kilometres in girth with 5.984 crenels. Evening dumpling dinner at Defachang Dumpling Dinner Restaurant. Dumplings (or Jiao Zi in Chinese) is one of the most popular and characteristic foods in China. And the most famous dumplings served are in Xi’an of northwest China’s Shaanxi Province. The Xi’an Dumpling Feast is well known for its rich assortment of dumplings with different tastes and styles. and ‘Tang Dynasty” song and dance show after dinner evoking the sights and sounds of old China. Day 7 – Xian, Terra Cotta (B,L)
Today we visit the Xian’s greatest site Terracotta Warriors. Buried for over 2,000 years and unearthed only in 1970’s, the vast army of warriors was created to protect Emperor Qin Shi Huang in the afterlife. We also explore the city’s Muslim Quarter and check out the Great Mosque- an interesting fusion of both Middle Eastern and traditional Chinese architectural styles and an important place of worship for the Muslim population of Xian.
Day 8 – Xian & Kunming (B,D)
Fly to Kunming by morning flight. Afternoon visit Flower & Bird Market and Cuihu Park. With haggling shoppers and indignant store owners, the Bird and Flower Market is your typical Chinese market scene. Cuihu park is home to two impressive traditional Chinese structures, the Huxin Pavilion and the Fish-View Tower. This park provides refuge to a number of migratory red-billed gulls in the winter and spring months. Locals and visitors alike admire the area as a place where humanity, birds, and nature coexist in harmony. Local groups often put on short Chinese opera acts, with live music. Dinner for tonight, enjoy Over-bridge Rice Noodles. It is a typical Yunnan local flavour food. This dish consists of several courses: put some pepper powder and hot chicken oil into a big bowl and fill the bowl with boiling chicken broth. Now put the food items, such as sashimi, sliced meat, pork liver, slices of squid, etc into the bowl and stir the soup slightly with a pair of chopsticks until these things are done. Vegetables are then added afterwards as the second course, and the rice noodles follow as the last course. Stay in Kunming New Era Hotel.
Day 9 – Kunming (B,L)
Morning visit Stone Forest. The Stone Forest Scenic Area is approximately 80 kilometres away from the downtown of Kunming. Covering 400 square kilometres, it is a State National Geo Park, World Geo Park, National Key Scenic Area as well as a World Natural Heritage Site accepted by UNESCO in 2007. The Stone Forest is famous for the Karst landform and the ethnic culture of the Sani People (a branch of the Yi ethnic minority).
Day 10 – Kunming, Guilin (B,L)
Morning flight to Guilin. Afte lunch we take an illuminated tour through the popular Reed Flute Cave to see its many chambers and caverns of extraordinary limestone formations. Head back towards town for the short climb up Fubo Hill for 360-degree views of Guilin town and the Li River. In the evening take a walking tour of Guilin’s town square and Riverside, which comes alive with fountain shows, lighting displays and a fascinating night market. Overnight at Guilin Bravo Hotel.
Day 11 – Guilin, Li River Cruise – Yangshuo (B,L,D)
Li River Cruise from Guilin to Yangshuo. Sitting comfortably on the cruise boat, you will feast your eyes on a succession of beautiful scenes of nature, which look like so many canvasses of landscape painting. Afternoon can be enjoyed by exploring Yangshuo’s West Street and enjoy the shopping opportunities and café culture. Driver back to Guilin. Dinner of Guilin Rice Noodles Banquet. Rice noodle is typical Guilin local food and renowned throughout China. Beside the rice noodle, there are various materials putting into this food, voluptuous gravy, fried peanuts or soybeans, scallions and thin slices of different kinds of meat such as beef, horse meat, and pork. You can also add some spice and chili in the rice noodles.
Day 12 – Guilin, Longsheng (B,L)
Today we take a day trip out from Guilin to Longsheng to explore some of China’s beautiful rural countryside. We drive past some spectacular karst cliff landscapes and ascend the winding road that snakes up the mountainside to an area that is home to various ethnic minority groups. Wander through the maze of little stone pathways and traditional wooden houses on stilts of the White Yao village, and take a short hike further up the mountain to admire some of China’s most spectacular rice terrace scenery. This area is known as the Dragon’s Backbone and features amazing rows upon rows of rice terraces clinging precariously to the slopes of neighbouring mountain peaks and valleys.
Day 13 – Guilin, Yangtze River Cruise (B,L,D)
Transfer to airport for flight to Chongqing. A short city tour of Chongqing if time permits. Yangtze River is the third longest river in the world and lifeblood of this vast country. Leaving behind the industrial city, we cruise through rolling hills and pass small towns, villages and an array of river transportation. Be on the deck as we sail through the might of the Three Gorges – Qutang Xia, Wu Xia and Xiling Xia. Witness the enormity and scale of the Three Gorges Dam and ship lock. Chongqing Hot Pot dinner before transfer to the Yangtze River Cruise (Victoria Cruise Lines). Hotpot is the most famous and favorite dish in Chongqing. Chongqing local people consider the hotpot a local specialty, which is noted for its peppery and hot taste, scalding yet fresh and tender.

Day 16 – Yangtze River Cruise, Shanghai (B,L)
Morning visit to Three Gorge Dam, Disembark our ship in Yichang, lunch in the local restaurant, transfer to Yichang airport for flight to Shanghai. Arrive in Shanghai transfer to Langham Xintiandi Hotel.
Day 17 – Shanghai (B,L,D)
We walk along the historic riverfront Bund. It is located along the bank of Huangpu River, stretching for 1.7 kilometers. Fifty-two high-rises of all styles stand in the west, showcasing the art of world architecture and miniaturing the history of contemporary Shanghai. We continue to visit Yuyuan Garden which features the gardening style of South China during the Ming and Qing Dynasty ( 1644-1911). A mall next to the Garden is known as the City God Temple Fair, a nice place for shopping. Transfer back to hotel for some rest. Farewell Dinner. This evening you are off to the theatre to view the world-famous Chinese acrobats in a mind-bending performance of skill and agility. This show is the best in town and must be seen to be believed!
Day 18 – Shanghai, Suzhou (B,L)
Drive to Suzhou, Visit Master of Nets Garden – One of the four renowned gardens and a piece of representative work of Suzhou gardens, the artistic characteristics and the cultural values of the Master of Nets Garden are superb. The garden is first constructed in the Song Dynasty (1174 A.D.) The name of the garden was inspired by the simple and solitary life of a Chinese fisherman depicted in philosophical writings. Being a typical private garden, which combines residence and garden into one unit and the representative work of Suzhou gardens of modest size, Master of Nets Garden is characterized with its water scenes, its perfect proportions and its exquisite design. Take a Rickshaw Tour through the old town of Suzhou, you will see the small Hutongs, the open markets and the local people’s life. Nice Lunch in local restaurant. Take a boat on the Grand Canal. The Grand Canal of China is the longest ancient canal or artificial river in the world. In ancient times, the Grand Canal served as the main artery between northern and southern China and was essential for the transport of grain and other commodities. It also enabled cultural exchange and political integration to mature between the north and south of China. Drive back to Shanghai.

Transfer to Shanghai airport for our flights home to Canada or your hometown.
